A few weeks ago we visited Estes Park, Colorado and explored the Rocky Mountain National Park. We didn't have our doggy on this trip, but with an eye for future visits with our pooch I asked dog owners about their experience with their dog in the area.
First of all, pets are permitted in Rocky Mountain National Park, but they are not permitted on trails, in buildings, or in the backcountry. They are only allowed in areas accessed by vehicles, including roadsides, parking areas, picnic areas, and campgrounds. Dogs must be kept on a leash no longer than six feet.
There is an off leash dog park in Estes Park called Estes Valley dog park, it is off of Hwy 36.
A couple with a happy dog said they enjoyed hiking with their dog on Trail Ridge Rd.
The Coffee shop, Coffee on The Rocks, has a dog friendly area.
There are some dog friendly accommodations in the area, such as Paradise on River.

One danger I see in the park is to plan on leaving a dog in the car, it gets extremely hot quickly, and there are not many shady areas. Plus, the hike we went on in the park took much longer than we thought.
Only service dogs are allowed in buildings or ranger stations in the park.
