Doggy at Bass Pro Shop in Rocklin, CA

Last weekend we visited the Bass Pro Shop off Highway 80 in Rocklin, California.  We see the shop all the time from the freeway but had never been inside.  It is like a Disneyland of outdoor sporting goods.  Amazing displays.  They are also generally pet-friendly.

Dia De La Muerta parade and procession, Petaluma, CA, very dog friendly

From 2 to 8 Pm today, there was a El Dia de los Muertos candlelight procession with giant puppets through the streets of Petaluma, CA.  The parade starts at Water Street Bistro at 100 Petaluma Blvd, which is a dog friendly cafe with soups, sandwiches, and salads.  It ends at Petaluma Historical Society, at 20 4th Street.

There were plenty of dogs dressed up as skeletons.

During the parade, a musician had people yell out someone who has passed away, and who we miss, my son yelled out Sophie, his first dog he has ever loved.  I yelled my uncle, who passed away in December.  He would have loved the parade, he enjoyed each day.

Golden Retriever Rescue, Homeward Bound - great place to adopt or find home for a Golden Retriever!

My son and I took our dog for a walk to a cafe and our doggy made friends with a lady who recently adopted her precious golden retriever to Homeward Bound, a Golden Retriever Rescue service.  The woman who came and picked up her golden retriever gave her roses and comforted her while she cried.  She didn't want to give up her pet, but couldn't take care of him anymore as she has severe back problems.  It was such a sad story!  The light at the end of the tunnel came when she told us that Homeward Bound found a home for her doggy in the country with children to run around with!  It gives her peace to know her dog is happy and has a good home!

I highly recommend Homeward Bound Rescue after hearing this story!

Free Pets for VETS at the Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF) in Walnut Creek,CA

It always saddens me to rediscover how after defending our country and our freedom, veterans return from combat and often find it challenging to transition back to civilian life.  After defending our home front, some even find themselves  homeless and alone.

The VA estimates that a veteran commits suicide every 65 seconds, which amounts to thousands of lives each year.

Meanwhile, in public animal shelters, an estimated three to four million healthy, loving dogs are euthanized each year.  This deeply saddens me since our dog was found on the streets of Oakland, and if we had not found him, he could have been one of those statistics.  He is the best dog ever, and when dressed in his finery of a fancy sweater, he can fit into any dog circle even in the fanciest neighborhood.    What if we hadn't found him?

Research proves that interaction with a companion animal lowers blood pressure, reduces anxiety, and improves mental and physical health.

ARF's Free Pets for VETS program and the Animal Rescue Foundation is a great solution to helping vets and pets!
