We love the book, Stickeen, by John Muir. It is about John Muir's adventures with a dog he met on his travels in Alaska. Anyone who loves dogs will understand that Muir loved animals, and fell in love with this dog, Stickeen. After the trip in Alaska, Muir never saw Stickeen again, but he named another dog Stickeen when he was a family man and farmer.

This book was written in 1909 and was dedicated to his daughter, Helen.
(There are several versions of this book, I will update this soon with my son's favorite version.)
